Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Money Movement)

About the role

Phantom is a fully remote, 180-person fintech company behind a crypto wallet app used by tens of millions of people. It is hiring a Staff Backend Engineer focused on money movement: designing, maintaining and evolving the backend services and APIs that connect Phantom Cash to blockchains. The engineer balances reliability, quality and speed, communicates clearly across teams, documents rigorously and mentors others.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Pragmatic, result-oriented mindset focused on user impact rather than abstract purity.
• Proactive and outcome-oriented, pushing features to completion without waiting for perfect specs.
• Strong communicator and pragmatic problem solver who explains complexity simply.
• Nice to have: previous hands-on experience in crypto or fintech (exchanges, wallets, payment rails, ledgers).

Required skills

• Node.js / NestJS at scale; event-driven design (queues, retries, idempotency)
• REST API architecture: versioning, pagination, error models, authentication, rate-limiting
• Distributed-systems fundamentals: concurrency, ordering, retries, data consistency
• Full-stack awareness of state management trade-offs and latency budgets
• Nice to have: Kubernetes + AWS ops, CI/CD, observability, on-call ownership
• Nice to have: smart-contract and protocol understanding, blockchain integration experience (Solana preferred, EVM acceptable)
